Final Zoning Board Public Hearing
on Seasons' Request for
Three Special Use Permits
The next hearing will be on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 6 pm in the Tiverton High School auditorium. The purpose is to hear from the public so please attend!
This will be the first, and most likely only, opportunity for the public to provide input to the board on the negative impacts of the proposed 8-bay gasoline station, convenience store and coffee shop with drive-up window in a residential neighborhood. Please subscribe to our emails (see bottom of this page) to receive more information about what testimony you can provide that will have the most impact on the board's ultimate decision whether to grant the three special use permits needed for the project to proceed.

Zoning Board Public Hearing on Seasons, Part 3: Feb. 22, 2024
Seasons began by presenting slides with more changes to their original plan, although those slides were not made available to either the Zoning Board members or to Preserve TIverton's attorneys in advance of the meeting. Next Seasons' environmental consultant testified, and was cross-examined by Preserve Tiverton's attorneys. Further cross-examination and any additional questions from the public for this witness can be expected when the hearing is continued on March 20, 2024, at 6 pm in Town Hall.
When Seasons has finished presenting their expert witnesses, then Preserve Tiverton will be allowed to present our own expert witnesses to refute them.

Zoning Board Public Hearing on Seasons, Part 2: Jan. 22, 2024
The Zoning Board of Review heard more from several of Seasons' paid expert witnesses who argued for the granting of the three special use permits that are needed for the proposed Seasons gas station and convenience store with drive-through window. These witnesses were also cross-examined by attorneys representing Preserve Tiverton and an abutter, and members of the public were able to ask questions as well.
The hearing is far from over. We anticipate it will take many more meetings before all the relevant witnesses are heard and cross-examined, and the public gets the chance to weigh in. We will publicize the next date as soon as we have it. Stay tuned!

Public Hearing on Dec. 6th Has Been Continued
Preserve Tiverton wants to thank all the Tiverton residents who attended the December 6th Zoning Board meeting. It was a long night.
Seasons had its “experts” lined up ready to convince the Board that this project would more than meet the requirements needed for granting the three Special Use Permits it requested. It was particularly interesting how their project manager tried to demonstrate how it had already tried to design something that would fit in with the surrounding area. Adding a cupola and a few feet of fake stone siding do not make it fit in with the historic buildings in the area, especially when there are 8 gas pumps facing Main Road. However, by spending so much time on that discussion, they effectively forced Preserve Tiverton to have their attorneys and experts there at a significant cost.
The next Zoning Board meeting is tentatively scheduled for January 3, 2024.
In the meantime, Preserve Tiverton will be preparing to rebut Seasons' case. We hope we can count on your continued support.
Several people have reached out to ask if they could help by getting friends and neighbors to sign a petition form. If you would be interested in doing this, please contact [email protected].
Once again, thank you for your continuing support.

Please read up on the proposal and attend the hearing at 7 pm in Town Hall.
Preserve Tiverton is a diverse group of area residents with a shared mission of preserving Tiverton’s natural and cultural resources from any type of development that threatens them. Originally founded in 2013 as Don't Mall Tiverton, we successfully fought off a 1-million-square-foot commercial development proposed on residentially zoned property and at odds with the town's Comprehensive Community Plan. Since then, the group has continued working to protect our rural, small-town character and to promote the types of commercial and residential developments called for in the Comprehensive Plan.
